Nancy Pelosi

Yes, Andy Biggs, made a “Hammer” joke about Nancy Pelosi.

On election night, a video of Biggs telling the joke was uploaded on Twitter.

Rep. Andy Biggs, a Republican from Arizona, made light of the vicious attack on Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul, by joking that she was “losing the gavel but finding the hammer” on election night 2022.

Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona, a Republican, spoke at a GOP watch party on November 8, 2022, as precincts around the nation started to announce results from the 2022 midterm elections. Biggs stated during his speech in Scottsdale, “In a moment, we’ll send Nancy Pelosi packing. Nancy, don’t let that strike you in the behind. She can’t seem to find the gavel, yet she can. too early? If so, is it too soon? I had no idea. I simply had no idea.”

Kyung Lah, a senior national journalist, seems to have broken the story of the comment first.

The Recount later shared a video of Biggs’ joke regarding Pelosi and the hammer on Twitter:

Biggs’ joke alluded to a vicious assault that took place on Paul Pelosi, the husband of U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, on October 28. Paul Pelosi was hit with a hammer by an intruder who broke into the couple’s San Francisco home, according to San Francisco Police, leaving him with a cracked skull and other wounds.

According to the Associated Press, “David DePape, 42, was detained on allegations of attempted murder, elder abuse, and burglary.” Washington, D.C., was where Nancy Pelosi was at the time.

Days before Biggs’ comment, another Republican running for governor of Arizona, Kari Lake, said something that was highly condemned for being an apparent jest mimicking the attack on Paul Pelosi.

Regarding Biggs’ assertion that Republicans will allegedly seize control of the U.S. House, The Associated Press noted that Democrats ended up displaying “surprising strength” in the midterm elections. The results of a number of competitions held around the nation were still unknown at the time.
