Yale basketball upsets Auburn basketball in March Madness, slipping between Auburn’s grasp.

Continue to live and grow. In March Madness, that’s the name of the game.
After leading 13-seeded Yale by six points with four minutes left in Friday’s Round of 64, No. 4 seed Auburn basketball had that goal in sight. However, the Tigers faltered late and were defeated by the Bulldogs, 78-76, as a result of several missed baskets and careless fouls.

John Poulakidas, a junior at Yale, was outstanding the whole way, but particularly with one crucial basket in the closing moments. With little over two minutes left, he made a crucial 3-pointer to give the Bulldogs (23-9) the lead, and they never looked back.

Chad Baker-Mazara leaves the Auburn game early against Yale

Younger wing The Tigers’ (27-8) leader in many aspects is Chad Baker-Mazara. He is outspoken, sensitive, and unafraid to speak poorly. The day before the match, he said that he was OK with being the “villain”.

However, when it came to Yale, Baker-Mazara took off more than he could chew. Although he has experience with extracurricular activities and has received many technical fouls during his freshman season at Auburn, he was removed from the game for throwing a retaliatory elbow less than four minutes into the game.

A rapid beginning for Johni Broome

Johni Broome took the ball right into the chest of Yale center Danny Wolf on the game’s opening possession; Wolf was called for a foul. In the end, Broome ended with 24 points and 13 rebounds, which was indicative of his aggressive play.

John Poulakidas was unable to ignore

With his fifth 3-pointer coming during a 10-0 run that saw Yale temporarily take the lead early in the second half, Poulakidas’ every 3-pointer seemed like a body blow to Auburn. With 10 of 15 shots, he ended with a game-high 28 points.

Next up

The Tigers, who won six consecutive games en route to winning the SEC Tournament, exit the NCAA Tournament early. Pearl has completed his tenth year at Auburn.
