Warriors cut Chris Paul; Klay Thompson is probably going to leave.

The Golden State Warriors confirmed on Sunday that guard Chris Paul had to forgo his contract in order to receive his $30 million salary for the current campaign.
Paul is now free to sign with no restrictions.

After settling for a smaller role with the Warriors, Paul, a 12-time NBA All-Star, played off the bench for the first time in his illustrious career last season. In 26.4 minutes, he averaged 9.2 points and 6.8 assists.
The 39-year-old veteran was traded for Jordan Poole last summer; however, because Paul’s contract is expiring, the trade now amounts to a money dump.
In an attempt to investigate potential trades, the Warriors first extended Paul’s guarantee date, but nothing came of it.
In addition to losing that pay, Klay Thompson, an unrestricted free agent who has been with the Warriors for 13 seasons, is probably not going to play for them again next season. As a result, the Warriors have committed $147.2 million in salaries for the next campaign and will be a non-taxpaying midlevel club when they hit free agency.
They are able to employ the biannual exception and the $12.8 million midlevel exception for free agency acquisitions.
According to sources who spoke with ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Thompson intends to speak with the Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Philadelphia 76ers within the first few hours of free agency.
The Warriors are nearing the end of Thompson’s career since the two sides’ relationship soured and the contract talks never got back on track after last summer.
Although Thompson is open to considering alluring offers and chances, sources close to the Lakers informed ESPN that the midlevel exception they may provide him might not be sufficient to lure him to Los Angeles.
