Tottenham wins 3-1 against Bournemouth but sustains further injuries

Tottenham Hotspur defeated a resurgent Bournemouth 3-1 in the Premier League on Sunday, with goals from Richarlison, Son Heung-Min, and Pape Matar Sarr.

After going undefeated and winning six of their previous seven league games, Bournemouth will be wondering why their winning streak did not continue as they occasionally dominated in rain-soaked north London.

After the home team had rode their luck against a cunning visiting team, Richarlison and captain Son scored late goals, but Sarr gave Tottenham an early lead before he was forced off with an injury.

In the 84th minute, Alex Scott gave Bournemouth a response, but it was not much comfort for Andoni Iraola’s team.

Even if it was not very convincing, Tottenham’s victory in manager Ange Postecoglou’s debut season put them right in the middle of the fight for a top-four finish come January 1.

“Every week is a struggle, and today was no exception. In addition, I think we played some very good things,” Postecoglou said to Sky Sport.

“We’re working on constructing something. We’re trying to assemble a squad that plays a little bit differently and has some resilience, and you can only develop such qualities via adversity. I apologize for always repeating myself. While some of it is self-inflicted due to bans, there have been several injuries. We’re still battling there and haven’t wanted to provide an explanation.”We’re three points off the lead, so I’ll take it if it means the difference between where we are and having a fantastic season. It goes without saying that there will be difficulties while building anything. I am seeing development. Sometimes it’s simply the team developing; other times it’s not anything concrete like football or results. Today saw further growth.”

With 20 games played, Spurs have 39 points, one behind fourth-place Arsenal and only three behind leaders Liverpool.

Tottenham has further injury worries despite their three-point haul since they were forced to take Pape Sarr off the field in the first half.

“The injuries have been a constant for us.” I’m not sure to what degree I’m disappointed for Pape [Matar Sarr]. He’s got a torn hamstring. Others will have to take the lead.
