The holiday special “A Very Barry Christmas” airing tonight, according to Barry Manilow, is “full of joy.”

On December 11 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC, Barry Manilow will celebrate the holiday season with A Very Barry Christmas.  It is based on a Christmas show he has been doing for some time, mostly while on residency at the Westgate Las Vegas, where the television program was recorded.

“It’s an amazing, amazing hour,” Manilow remarks to ABC Audio. “I perform many of the hits, and it’s full of Christmas cheer and joy.” Even though I’m singing “Copacabana,” it always seems like a Christmas special because I found out a way to incorporate the tunes into it.

However, although Manilow is expected to perform hits like “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” and his updated rendition of “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey on the show, tunes like “Oh Holy Night” and “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” will not be included.

Manilow declares, “For me, Christmas is not about the religious songs.” It’s about the popular tunes that we’ve all heard and are familiar with. Additionally, because it lasts for only one month, they never get weary. So it always seems fresh and wonderful when Bing Crosby starts singing “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas.”

Despite the fact that the show will include plenty of festive activities, Manilow claims that he and his spouse don’t really observe Hanukkah or Christmas.

“I’m never not traveling… He says, “I’ve never really been able to do that.” “Gary and I decorated a large Christmas tree… However, most of the time we’re not here. When we do return, it’s shortly before Christmas weekend, and having a large crowd around is the last thing I want to do! Thus, we don’t really celebrate it in the same manner as others.
