The championship bid of Arsenal has been halted, but the Champions League provides hope.

Arsenal has to show that they are not April Fools in one week. This month the Gunners started their quest for glory both domestically and internationally for the second year in a row.
Nonetheless, Mikel Arteta’s team has one week to save their season after a 2-0 home loss to Aston Villa, and the Spaniard is aware of this. In apocalyptic circumstances, Arsenal’s season may abruptly end with visits to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bayern Munich coming up in the next six days.

“If one result is going to do that then we are not strong enough,” Arteta said. “That’s very simple.”No other option is available to us. It’s imperative that you take action at these periods if you want to win championships and make the Champions League. If not, it indicates that you lack a very essential characteristic. We are now in a major test.”
One major problem is the symmetry with the previous season. The championship was taken by Manchester City after a run of three victories from the last nine league games that Arsenal began exactly a year ago. This weekend, both of Arsenal’s primary opponents suffered home losses, and once again, Pep Guardiola’s team is leading the way.
Villa’s skill in possession, strong defensive line, and readiness to commit men forward shocked the home team’s defense, restricting them to only four shots in the second half. Their style of play was confident and composed, just what Arsenal needed in a championship fight decided by such slim margins.
Good early chances were lost by the Gunners. Martin Odegaard wove an impressively easy pass between the lines, but Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka both found the side netting. Though in recent weeks, the Gabriel/William Saliba center-back combination had given Arsenal security. However, Ollie Watkins was given an opportunity to remind Arsenal of Villa’s danger when the former struck the inside of the post with a 39th-minute effort, casting uncertainty on Arteta’s team.
Following the interval, Villa had remarkable control over the game as Emiliano Martínez, their goalkeeper, expertly stopped Leandro Trossard’s shot and Saka’s attempt went just wide. As the Gunners chased the game, they were caught on the counterattack and substitute Leon Bailey scored with six minutes left. Watkins then finished well over David Raya.
Every loss seems devastating to Man City, however, because of their unwavering and well-established stability at this point in the season. Furthermore, Arsenal is once again open to the charge that they are incapable of producing their finest work while under extreme pressure, given their stuttering steps from a year ago.
In that sense, it seemed like progress had been accomplished. Much of this season has seen Arsenal feel different because of the qualities, tenacity, and experience of Declan Rice and Kai Havertz. That question will, however, be posed most loudly right now.
With a 2-2 result from the first leg, Wednesday’s Champions League quarterfinal match is tight. This season, Wolves has defeated both City and Tottenham at home in the Premier League. They will have a week off to get ready for Saturday night’s game at Molineux.
In order to turn around the momentum that suggests their season may be going away, belief is extremely essential. When told that City had the championship back in their possession, Arteta tried his hardest to project a belligerent air.
“When you look at the schedule, the games we have to play every three days, it’s crazy,” Arteta said. Accordingly, any squad may experience [losing points]. There have been previous instances. We are powerless over everything. We now have the ability to choose how we will act. Starting tomorrow, be ready to offer us the greatest opportunity to go to Munich with confidence and win the match to advance to the semifinals.”
Despite his reluctance to acknowledge it in public, Villa manager Unai Emery would have relished another win against his previous employers, one that, he eventually acknowledged, puts Villa “contenders” for Champions League qualifying with five games remaining.
The catastrophe that Emery left for Arteta at Arsenal should not be hidden by his success at Villa, just as this outcome cannot conceal the significant advancement that Arteta has presided over. However, he may have made some dubious moves recently.
Jesus was benched against Bayern and Jakub Kiwior was started; these seemed like poor decisions. Oleksandr Zinchenko and Trossard failed to provide evidence to support their inclusion in this instance, and Gabriel Martinelli’s late introduction proved disappointing once again. Unexpectedly, Odegaard withdrew his captaincy with eleven minutes remaining. Although Odegaard informed Norwegian television after the game he was not seriously hurt, Arteta later stated he “felt something” and could not continue.
Now is Arsenal’s chance to react to these small grievances that every manager has when things don’t work out.
“After losing any game the players are frustrated and sad,” Arteta said. However, we have a fantastic possibility to go to the Champions League semifinals—something that hasn’t occurred at this club for 14 years. What a perfect time for it to arrive.”
It is now Arsenal’s responsibility to demonstrate that.
