Hilaree Nelson

Missing American ski mountaineer Hilaree Nelson’s dead body found in the Himalayas

Hilaree Nelson was one of the finest US ski mountaineers.  On Wednesday a search team organized the expedition and retrieved her body from the Himalayas. She was missing for the past two days from near the summit of Mount Manaslu peak in Nepal. She was born on 13 December 1972.  Hilaree Nelson along with her partner, Jim Morrison, were skiing  on the world’s 8th highest mountain peak , Mt Manaslu , before disappearing  on Monday.

Her body was located on the south face of the 26,718ft peak. According to local witnesses Nelson’s ski blade skidded off the mountain and then she fell off from 5,000ft slope to the other side of the peak into a deep crevasse.

Morrison said, “I skied first, and after a few turns Hilaree followed, and started a small avalanche. She was swept off her feet and carried down a narrow snow slope down the south side of the mountain over 5,000 ft. I did everything I could to locate her, but was unable to go down that face as I hoped to find her alive and live my life with her.

The weather was bad due to an avalanche, and more than a dozen people were injured. Her body was located with the support and help from other mountaineers like Surendra Paudel, Mingma Tenzi Sherpa and Nims Purja.

She was popular for her adventurous climbs. Nelson,49, and her partner Jim Morrison became the 1st couple to ski down the world’s fourth-highest peak, Mt Lhotse in Nepal in 2018. She holds many records in mountaineering. She became the 1st woman to climb Mount Everest and Mount Lhotse in a single 24-hour period. She won National Geographic’s, ‘Adventurer of the Year’, award in 2018.

She lived in Telluride, Colorado and has two boys. She served as the captain of the team  The North Face Global Athletic.
