Serena Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, have welcomed their second child.
The couple turned to social media on Tuesday to announce the birth of their newborn daughter, Adira River Ohanian.
“I’m grateful to report our house is teaming with love: a happy & healthy newborn girl and a happy & healthy mama,” Ohanian said on Instagram. “I’m grateful.” Serena Williams, you’ve now given me another priceless gift: you’re the GMOAT.”
“Many thanks to all of the wonderful medical personnel who looked after my wife and our daughter.” “I’ll never forget introducing @olympiaohanian to her baby sister,” he said.
He concluded his comment with what seems to be a tribute to his daughter’s middle name: “Your peace would have been like a river, your well-being like the waves of the sea.”
Williams also announced the arrival of her baby in a cute TikTok video with the words “Welcome my beautiful angel.”
Williams cuddles with her husband in the video before being joined by her 5-year-old daughter, Alexis Olympia. She gets up and says she’ll be right back, then returns with the infant, and the four of them hug.
Williams spoke to CBS Mornings in February about her decision to retire from tennis and have a family.
She said that her daughter was excited to be a big sister.
“The other day she said, ‘Everyone has a brother or sister except me.’ ‘Olympia, I’m working on it,’ I say. Mommy overworked in tennis, so it’s taking a bit longer than intended.” Williams remembered.
