Rice and Jesus score as Arsenal defeats Manchester United late in the game.

Arsenal beat Manchester United 3-1 in the Premier League on Sunday, thanks to goals in stoppage time from record acquisition Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus.

After United had a late goal disallowed and Arsenal had a penalty rejected, it seemed like both teams would have to settle for a draw, but Rice sent the home crowd into frenzy with a deflected strike in the 96th minute.

After a counter-attack in which United had pushed everyone forward, Jesus finished with a magnificent finish.

“I think I controlled it with my chin and just had a shot, because if you don’t shoot, you don’t score,” Rice, who joined from West Ham United, said to Sky Sports.

United were devastated, particularly when what seemed to be a late winner scored by substitute Alejandro Garnacho was ruled out for offside following a VAR video review.

Marcus Rashford scored against the run of play in the 27th minute, hammering home a shot following a counter-attack, but their pleasure was short-lived as Martin Odegaard equalised for Arsenal less than a minute later.

When Kai Havertz fell down in the area halfway through the second quarter, referee Anthony Taylor revised his judgement after consulting the VAR monitor.

After four games, Mikel Arteta’s squad has ten points together with three other clubs, two behind leaders Manchester City.

United is in 11th position with six points after losing twice. “Everything went against us, but I thought the performance was alright,” United manager Erik ten Hag remarked, adding that he disagreed with the decision to rule Garnacho’s goal out.

“I didn’t think it was offside, but it is what it is.” Today’s margins were razor thin.”
