Rajon Rondo, a former UK and NBA star, has been detained in Jackson County on weapons and drug allegations.

Rajon Rondo, a former Kentucky and NBA star, was briefly jailed over the weekend after being apprehended in southern Indiana.

According to court documents, Rondo has been charged with illegal firearm possession, marijuana possession, and paraphernalia possession. All are misdemeanors.

According to jail records, cops arrested Rondo on Sunday. He was freed after posting a bail.

According to Indiana State Police, a caller reported spotting a Tesla “traveling recklessly” on I-65 in Bartholomew county. A state trooper discovered the vehicle and started a traffic stop following a “observed traffic violation” as it entered into Jackson County.

According to court filings, dispatchers reported that Rondo’s Tesla was driving more than 100 mph when he was stopped. The trooper also saw that his automobile did not have a license plate.

On Sunday afternoon, state troopers stopped Rondo on southbound Interstate 65. The arriving trooper smelled marijuana, prompting a search that yielded a pistol and drug paraphernalia.

Rondo, 37, is forbidden from possessing a firearm due to an existing protection order, according to ISP. The order was issued on August 16, 2023. According to court filings, Rondo admitted that he was “not allowed” to possess the pistol.

A kid who was in Rondo’s car at the time was released to a family member, according to police.

Rondo excelled at the University of Kentucky and was the 21st choice in the 2006 NBA Draft. He played in the NBA for more than 15 seasons, most recently with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2022.

His NBA career includes stints in Boston, Dallas, Sacramento, Chicago, and Los Angeles (Lakers and Clippers), among other places. The four-time All-Star has won championships with the Celtics (2008) and the Lakers (2020).
