When asked if Baker Mayfield has met or exceeded his expectations since joining the Los Angeles Rams on December 6, the quarterback responded with his best performance in his brief time with the organisation. Coach Sean McVay.
McVay responded, “I believe probably better. “You guys are aware that I have always been a supporter of his, and I believe he has performed admirably. And you must consider what he accomplished in order to arrive here, play with many other players who are new, and be able to take the initiative now. Just a remarkable effort. He has performed well.”
In a game that saw no punting from Los Angeles on Sunday, Mayfield steered the Rams to a 51-14 victory over the Denver Broncos. With the exception of their final drive, when they took over on downs with six seconds left in the game and knelt, the Rams scored on all nine of their drives. The Rams failed to punt in a game for the second time under McVay.

Mayfield also surpassed Case Keenum and Kurt Warner (2000) to set the Rams’ single-game completion percentage record (2016).

Coming off the Monday night game, I wasn’t really performing great offensively, and obviously, I was disappointed with how I played, Mayfield said. And the fact that we played an entire game like that says a lot.
Against the Broncos, Mayfield largely depended on his tight ends, particularly Tyler Higbee, who had nine receptions for 94 yards and two scores. Since entering the NFL, Mayfield has thrown 39 touchdown passes to tight ends, which is tied for the second-most in that time.
The man is a rival, said Higbee. “He excels as a quarterback. He demonstrated today that he merits a spot in this league.”
The Rams scored 51 points, their highest total since defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 54-51 on Monday Night Football in 2018. The Rams’ previous season high for points scored was 31, which they achieved against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2. With 16.4 points per game, Los Angeles had the second-worst scoring average in the NFL going into the day.
The Rams are only the fourth team since 1950, according to research by Elias Sports Bureau, to enter that game averaging under 17 points and score 50 points (minimum of 10 games played prior to scoring 50).
The Rams scored at least 50 points in three straight games after McVay was appointed head coach in 2017, including the victory over the Broncos. That is tied for the number of such occurrences throughout that time.
Regarding Mayfield, McVay remarked, “He’s been fantastic.” “Additionally, I believe he has excellent field perception. He has a great, calm disposition in between series, which is impressive for such a competitive competitor. He has excellent vision. He has excellent communication skills, and today everything went really smoothly. And Baker and the offence made a huge success by not having to punt at all against a team like that.”
