NBA Reporter Suggests Stupid Draymond Green Trade Between Dallas Mavericks & Golden State Warriors

There are only a few weeks left in the current year, and this is the time of year when rumors, stories, and pure conjecture about trades in the NBA begin to gain traction. We at DallasBasketball.com are all for individuals having fun with fictitious trade situations because, throughout the years, we’ve had plenty of fun putting up moves that we think have potential.

Nevertheless, for a scenario to make sense, there has to be some kind of reasoned argument on both sides of the deal, and a recent trade suggestion by an NBA writer that would have sent controversial forward Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors to the Dallas Mavericks is woefully lacking in that regard.

Here is the whole suggestion that CBS Sports’ Sam Quinn shared on X, the defunct Twitter platform: Draymond Green is given to the Mavs. Tim Hardaway Jr., Dereck Lively II, and a “lightly protected” first-round selection are acquired by the Warriors. When he asked, “Who says no?” to his audience, 91.2 percent of the more than 20,000 votes said “Mavericks.”

We’re going to venture to guess—with all due respect to Quinn—that he hasn’t been closely following the Mavs this season. Dallas is 15-8 and in third place in the Western Conference thanks in large part to the brilliance of 19-year-old big man Lively, who fits in well next to Luka Doncic, and Sixth Man of the Year front-runner Hardaway.

The Mavericks would effectively be giving up a first-round pick, an effective 18 points per game bench scorer, and a potential franchise-caliber center in exchange for a player who will turn 34 this season and is frequently suspended or ejected for hostile on-court actions.

Green, who was previously given a five-game suspension earlier in the season for choking Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert, got into additional controversy on Tuesday when he punched Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkic. It was reported on Wednesday by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN that the NBA has chosen to ban Green indefinitely.
