Natalie Portman and husband Benjamin Millepied are still together after his ‘enormous mistake,’ according to a source.

Natalie Portman and her husband, Benjamin Millepied, are working through marital issues discreetly.

A recent report in the French magazine Voici says Millepied had an adulterous affair throughout their marriage. According to a source, “it was short-lived and it is over.”

Portman, 41, and director/choreographer Millepied, 45, met on the production of the 2010 film Black Swan and are still together despite his “enormous mistake,” according to a source close to the pair.

“He knows he made a huge mistake, and he is doing everything he can to get Natalie to forgive him and keep their family together,” the insider said. “Natalie is extremely private and has no plans to play this out in the media.” Her first aim is to safeguard her children’s privacy.”

Portman and Millepied’s representatives did not respond immediately.

Portman and Millepied have two children: son Aleph, who is 12 this month, and daughter Amalia, who is six.

On August 4, 2012, the pair married. In August 2022, Portman marked their 10-year wedding anniversary with an Instagram post, saying beside a picture of them together, “Ten years today @benjaminmillepied, and it keeps getting better…”

Portman walked the red carpet with Millepied for the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of Carmen, which he directed. The film was released in theatres in April, but he attended the premiere alone that month.

Then, in May, Portman walked the red carpet alone for the Los Angeles premiere of her HBO docuseries Angel City, as well as the Cannes Film Festival, where she premiered her film May December alongside Julianne Moore.

Portman has said that she met Millepied while working on Black Swan in 2009, when Millepied was the film’s choreographer while she learnt the ballet routines.

“I met my husband on it, so I think I was in, like, dreamland,” Portman told SiriusXM Town Hall in 2018. “… He was showing me how to dance.” One of those romantic [tales], you know… It was certainly thrilling and enjoyable. It was stunning. I’m not sure about immediate. “It was almost as if I got to know him and realised, ‘Oh, this is the person.’”

Portman and Millepied worked together once again for her 2018 film Vox Lux, in which she portrayed a troubled pop singer. At the time, the Oscar winner told PEOPLE why she appreciated working on the film alongside her spouse.

“It was really fun because I think he knows me so well, and what my strengths and weaknesses are in dancing, that he was able to create choreography very seamlessly and quickly because we had very little time,” she said. “So it was very convenient that he knew me so well, and that he’s as talented as he is.”

Portman went on, “It was fun to get to watch him create because I don’t get to see him in the studio very often.” Just seeing his comfort and competence, and of course with various types of dancing, was really, really wonderful.”
