Move Up the Roster: Justin Fields is traded by the Bears to the Steelers

In return for quarterback Justin Fields passing his physical with Pittsburgh on Saturday, the Bears agreed to trade Fields to the Steelers for a 2025 sixth-round draft choice that could go as high as the fourth round depending on Fields’ playing time.
“We have engaged in multiple trade conversations in recent weeks and believe trading Justin at this time to Pittsburgh is what is best for both Justin and the Bears,” Ryan Poles, the team’s general manager, stated.” We wish him the best for a long and prosperous NFL career and want to thank him for his unwavering commitment, leadership, and all he has given to our team and community over the previous three years.”

Fields played with the Bears during his first three NFL seasons. In addition to running for 2,220 yards and 14 touchdowns on 356 runs, he completed 60.3% of his throws for 6,674 yards with 40 touchdowns, 30 interceptions, and an 82.3 passing rating.
Fields was selected by the Bears at No. 11 in the first round of the 2021 draft after they moved up nine places. They advanced by giving the Giants four draft selections in 2022—Rounds 1 and 4—and in Rounds 1 and 5 (No. 164) in 2021.
After seasoned Andy Dalton, Fields began his first season as the Bears’ number-two quarterback. However, Fields started the next eight games in lieu of Dalton when the latter suffered an injury in the first game of the season.
The former Ohio State star made 12 appearances in 12 games as a rookie, starting ten of them. He completed 1,870 yards of passing with seven touchdowns, ten interceptions, and a 73.2 passer rating. In addition, he ran 72 times for 420 yards and two touchdowns.
Flashes of Fields’ explosive dual-threat potential were evident, most notably when he engineered a 75-yard touchdown drive to give the Bears a late lead against the Steelers and a remarkable 22-yard touchdown rush against the 49ers.
As the Bears’ uncontested starting quarterback heading into his second season in 2022, Fields developed become an explosive playmaker. In addition to throwing for 2,242 yards and 17 touchdowns, the native of Georgia ran for 1,143 yards, which is the second-most by an NFL quarterback in history, and eight touchdowns.
Fields started all 13 of his games in 2023, going 2,562 yards with 61.4% of his passes completed, 16 touchdowns, 9 interceptions, and an 86.3 passer rating. He also ran 124 times for 657 yards and four touchdowns.
