Miranda Sings creator Colleen Ballinger refutes allegations of grooming in a musical video

Colleen Ballinger, the YouTuber whose uncomfortable persona Miranda Sings gained widespread renown, has addressed claims that she had improper connections with kids in the open.

Ballinger debunked the “lies” and “gossip” about her in a video that she uploaded to her Colleen Vlogs YouTube channel on Wednesday. Part of the video included her singing and playing the ukulele.

She began the ten-minute video by stating, “Some people are just saying things about me that aren’t true.” I realised they never said I couldn’t sing about what I wanted to say, she said, “even though my team has strongly advised me not to say what I’m going to say.”

Ballinger claims that early on in her YouTube career, “I used to contact my followers, but not in a creepy sense, as a lot of you are attempting to portray. It was more in a losers’ fashion. All I wanted was to be everyone’s best friend. Ballinger acknowledged that “there were times in DMs when I would overshare” but claimed that she “changed my behaviour and took accountability.”

“Thought you wanted me to take accountability,” she sung, “but that’s not the point of your mob mentality / your goal is to ruin the life of the person you despise / while you dramatise your lies and monetize their demise.” She repeatedly referred to the charges against her in the video as “the toxic gossip train.”

She later crooned, “I’m sure you’re disappointed in my shitty little song / I know you wanted me to say that I was 100% in the wrong / well, I’m sorry I’m not gonna take that route / of admitting to lies and rumours that you made up for clout.”

“The only thing I’ve ever groomed is my two Persian cats / I’m not a groomer, just a loser / who didn’t understand I shouldn’t respond to fans / and I’m not a predator even a lot of you think so / because five years ago I made a fart joke,” Ballinger crooned.

Ballinger argued that she makes it clear her Miranda Sings content is “PG-13” in nature (and the videos are not available on the YouTube Kids app) and that it is the responsibility of parents to determine what is and isn’t appropriate for their children in response to accusations that her odd, childlike character Miranda Sings has said things that are inappropriate for kids.

Allegations against Ballinger were initially made public three years ago, according to NBC News. The report claims that Ballinger “formed an inappropriate personal friendship with him while he was between the ages of 13 and 16, which included her sending him lingerie as a joke” in a video he posted on YouTube in 2020. Additionally, he said that Ballinger allowed him access to her social media accounts, assisted her in coming up with content ideas, and that they had been texting one other for years.

Ballinger admitted to making “stupid errors” and “jokes in terrible taste” in her video, but she also asked, “Was it my purpose to manipulate? No.”

For what it’s worth, I never intended any harm, she said. However, I do feel disgusting.

“As much as Colleen discredited & made fun of me, I’m glad her video did ONE thing, show you all EXACTLY the type of evil woman she is, that a lot of us have experienced over the past few years behind the scenes, the mask has slipped…everyone meet the REAL Colleen Ballinger,” McIntyre wrote in a tweet in response to the video.
