In the second and final match of the Champions Cup Round of 16, which took place on Wednesday night, Inter Miami started all of its best players against Nashville SC.
Along with Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba, Lionel Messi began against Nashville after resting and missing Sunday’s 3-2 defeat to Montreal. Suarez and Busquets did not play in the first half of the match versus Montreal; they came on in the 67th minute.
The remaining starters for Miami Wednesday’s players include Diego Gomez, Julian Gressel, Federico Redondo, Nico Freire, Sergiy Kryvtsov, goalkeeper Drake Callender, and defender Tomas Aviles.
The following players are on the bench: Lawson Sunderland, Shanyder Borgelin, Noah Allen, David Ruiz, Ryan Sailor, Cole Jensen, Leo Campana, and Robert Taylor.
After the first leg of the series, Miami and Nashville are equal on aggregate, but Miami has the advantage since the first tiebreaker is away goals. If Messi and his squad win, draw 0-0, or tie 1-1 on Wednesday, they will go on to the $5 million tournament’s quarterfinals.
In the event that Wednesday’s match ends in a 2-2 draw after regulation, extra time and penalty kicks will be used. When these two clubs previously faced off in PKs, it was during the August League Cup final, which went into ten rounds before Miami won.
The winner of FC Cincinnati vs. Monterrey, the Mexican club who won the first leg 1-0, will face the winner of Miami vs. Nashville.
