March Madness prediction for Purdue basketball vs. Utah State in the 2024 NCAA Tournament

Purdue basketball fans, don’t be shocked if Utah State’s offensive style seems uncannily similar to yours.
On Saturday afternoon, Aggies head coach Danny Sprinkle acknowledged knowing where he’s discovered some of the team’s offensive.

“A lot of our offensive sets, like, we steal a lot of sets from (Matt) Painter and his staff,” Sprinkle said.
Thus, in a March Madness second-round matchup, two teams should be aware of each other’s strengths and weaknesses.
Purdue, which is playing against Utah State, a team that averages 80 points per game and has scored at least 87 points four times in its past five games, will try to advance to the Sweet 16 for the second time in three years and eighth time since 2009.

Justifying Zach Edey

One thing the Aggies are unable to duplicate is going up against a 300-pound, 7-foot-4 opponent.
Zach Edey just finished a 30-point, 21-rebound game against Grambling State on Friday.
The plan?
Make Edey feel as awkward as you can.
Guard Ian Martinez of Utah State said, “There’s no perfect way to handle him.” “All we have to do is confront him and refuse to give up easily.” Everything he desires will need labor on his part.”

Recognizable faces

Johnny Hill and P.J. Thompson, who were once comrades, are now at odds with one another.
Hill and Thompson were Purdue teammates in the 2015–16 campaign. Thompson is the offensive coordinator for Purdue presently. Hill works as a coach at Utah State.
It should come as no surprise to Hill that Matt Painter has faith in Thompson to lead the team’s offensive playcalls.

“When you transition from playing to doing whatever it is you’re doing, it is kind of like a new identity,” Hill said. It’s wonderful to observe. He is going to be outstanding. Everyone who is involved with such material recognizes and comprehends it.”

Both sides have shown their ability to score goals quickly and regularly.
Edey and Osobor are the matchup to watch on the boards. Here, the difference is probably made by the winner on those missed shots.
