Manchester United beat Fulham to finish third.

Manchester United came from behind to beat Fulham 2-1 at home on Sunday, capping off their Premier League season on a high note with to goals from Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes.

Fulham seized the lead in the 19th minute when Kenny Tete curled in a near post header from a Willian corner, but the London club blew a chance to increase their lead seven minutes later when David de Gea saved Aleksandar Mitrovic’s penalty effort.

After the big let-off, United regained the initiative and were rewarded in the 39th minute when Sancho levelled with a straightforward close-range shot, then Fred’s defence-splitting ball set up Fernandes to score an exquisite chip in the 55th minute.

The Premier League table was unaffected by the outcome. Erik ten Hag’s squad finished third, while Fulham finished 10th, their first top-half finish since 2012.

Cairney came within inches of tying the game in the 76th minute when he fired a shot over the crossbar, before an unmarked Wout Weghorst squandered a golden chance to complete his loan term in Manchester with a goal.

United’s focus will now move to next week’s FA Cup final, in which they will meet rivals Manchester City.

Ten Hag’s third-placed United will be seeking to add to their Carabao Cup victory in February with a second trophy of the season.

“There is still one game left, and I am confident that these players will give it their all to beat Manchester City next week.” So we need it from you as well,” Ten Hag urged Old Trafford supporters.

“Thank you very much for everything. I believe we have a decent chance of bringing the cup back to Old Trafford.”

Fulham manager Marco Silva said that his team did not deserve to lose the game, which was decided by a penalty save.

“The game changed completely from that moment,” Silva told the BBC. “We should have reacted differently.” It was an opportunity for us to demonstrate maturity and approach the game differently, but we did not do so.”
