Liverpool loses unexpectedly to Toulouse in the Europa League.

Liverpool lost 3-2 to Toulouse in a thrilling Europa League Group E match on Thursday after an attempted equalizer was disallowed in the last minute of extra time.

After thirty-six minutes, the hosts took the lead thanks to a deflected goal from Aron Donnum, who stole a play in midfield and burst into the box. Thijs Dallinga doubled the lead in the fifty-eighth minute.

Cristian Casseres’ own goal gave Liverpool a one-goal lead in the 73rd minute, but three minutes later Frank Magri doubled the hosts’ lead with a close-range, deflected cross.

With a dribble into the area and a finish into the bottom corner, Diogo Jota gave the Premier League team hope.

Jota replaced Liverpool’s starting midfielder Luis Diaz nine minutes into the game after the latter failed to make much of an impression. Diaz’s father had been freed from kidnapping earlier on Thursday.

Jarell Quansah scored in the seventh minute of stoppage time to give Liverpool hope for a draw, but the goal was disallowed by the VAR because Alexis Mac Allister had handballed earlier in the play.

“We got our third, and I’m very sure it was a goal. The ball was in a precarious position not too long ago; I’m not even sure whether it was just the hand, but that’s the way things work,” Klopp said.

“With all the possession you have obviously you should create more but you cannot concede three goals here, that makes no sense.”

The interview with Klopp was cut short by the jubilant shouts and applause of the Toulouse fans.

“We were as organised as this press conference — pretty chaotic,” observed the German reporter. “Who had the idea to do the press conference here?”

With two points more than Toulouse, Liverpool continued to lead Group E.
