Bills vs Lions, Buffalo’s last-second FG defeats Detroit 28-25.

With 23 seconds left, Josh Allen guided the Bills to victory.

Buffalo Bills battled Detroit Lions. They forced overtime with 23 seconds left. Josh Allen threw a 39-yard pass to Stefon Diggs.

Bills defeated Lions 28-25 on a 45-yard field goal.

The Bills triumphed despite the Lions’ fourth-quarter lead. Lions 4-7, Bills 8-3.


1st Quarter

Jared Goff threw two incomplete passes to DJ Chark for the Lions. The Lions defence got a three-and-out thanks to Stefon Diggs’ drop and pressure on Josh Allen.

James Houston recovered Kalif Raymond’s fumble at Detroit’s 39-yard line.

Detroit’s Jamaal Williams converted 3rd-and-1. DJ Chark’s 16-yard pass pushed Detroit inside Buffalo’s 30. Third-and-9, Amon-Ra St. Brown’s slant brought Detroit to the Bills’ 14-yard line. The Bills were offsides when the Lions converted a fourth-and-1 at the 5-yard line. Detroit led 7-0 after Jamaal Williams’ 2-yard touchdown.

Bills scored. Josh Allen connected Gabe Davis for 16 yards, setting up a third-and-1. Allen took advantage of unguarded Lions rush lanes to gain 21 yards. Allen overthrew Will Harris for a touchdown on third-and-6. 7-7.

Ending the first quarter, Goff connected St. Brown for 13 yards.

2nd Quarter

After a failed trick play, the Lions screen-threw to Justin Jackson. Ed Oliver recovered Williams’ fumble at Buffalo’s 42-yard line.

Singletary gained 19 yards to the Bills’ 11-yard line. Allen scored after fumbling and juking into the end zone. 14-7 Bills.

Fourth-and-1 from their 33-yard line, the Lions gambled. Williams took it. James Mitchell’s throwback put the Lions in the red zone. Replay officials ruled D’Andre Swift down at the 2.5-yard line on third-and-3, setting up first-and-goal. St. Brown tied the game at 14-14 with a play-action pass on fourth-and-goal.

Von Miller exited with a knee injury.

The Bills had 1:52 and two timeouts to take the lead before halftime. Allen’s 27-yard pass to McKenzie started it. Third-down conversion by Diggs set up field goal. With 20 seconds left, McKenzie gained 16 yards to the Bills’ 20. Lions defence benefited after James Houston’s sack. Halftime score: Buffalo 17-14.

3rd Quarter

Bills’ opening drive was risk-free. Third-and-13, Allen threw 16 yards to Davis. On second-and-21 against Detroit’s zone coverage, Allen connected with McKenzie for 30 yards. Julian Okwara’s elbow seemed hurt. Leaving.

Jerry Jacobs’ pass interference penalty nullified the Lions’ stop. Bills first-and-goal at the 10. Alex Anzalone intercepted Allen’s next pass after Malcolm Rodriguez’s tip.

Detroit had a chance to regain the lead on its next possession. The Bills led 19-14 when Goff was sacked in the end zone after losing 5 yards to open the drive.

Buffalo’s next drive began with Singletary’s 15-yard run. Aidan Hutchinson and John Cominsky sacked Allen to end Detroit’s drive.

Detroit entered Bills territory on St. Brown’s 13- and 25-yard throws. Third-and-1, Jamaal Williams gained 27 yards to Buffalo’s 11-yard line.

Michael Badgley’s 29-yard field goal with 1:57 left kept the Bills up by five.

Kalif Raymond returned a punt 41 yards to Buffalo’s 35-yard line.

Justin Jackson’s 11-yard run concluded the quarter on the 10-yard line after a 13-yard pass interference penalty.

Two rushes put the Lions on the 1-yard line on third-and-goal. DJ Chark grabbed Goff’s winning play-action pass. Swift’s two-point conversion made it 22-19.

The Bills scored two first downs on their next possession. After three Lions incompletions, the Bills punted with 10:41 left.

Lions’ drive started with St. Brown’s 19-yard play-action catch. Goff hit St. Brown for 16 next. The Lions were in third-and-long after two failed throws and a near-interception.

Bills trailed by 3 with 8:59 left. Jerry Jacobs left the game early with an injury. Dawson Knox advanced the Bills to midfield after Allen passed over a Lions defender. Bills slowly approached red zone.

Buffalo had first-and-goal after Austin Bryant’s roughing the passer penalty. Allen hit Diggs on a 5-yard slant, but the Bills missed the PAT. 25-22.

2:40 and 3 timeouts remained for the Lions. Swift’s throwback advanced Detroit to the 42. Two-minute caution, Lions on 46. Fourth-and-inches at midfield for the Lions. Detroit’s 42-yard end around by St. Brown. Brown’s catch-and-run brought up third-and-1 at the Detroit 33. Goff dropped Detroit’s Chark deep. Badgley’s 51-yard field goal with 23 seconds left knotted it. 25-25 tie.

Allen hit Diggs for 39 yards.

The Bills might try a 45-yard game-winning field goal after Allen gains a few yards. 28-25.
