Lakers romp over Atlanta as D’Angelo Russell ties LA’s 3-point mark

To be honest, the Los Angeles Lakers needed the Atlanta Hawks badly.
With four weeks remaining in the regular season, the Lakers were not where they or anybody else expected them to be, especially after a potentially depressing defeat to Golden State two days before. Instead, they were sitting in 10th place in the Western Conference.

However, the Hawks were a simple task. Monday at Crypto.com Arena in a Lakers win of 136-105. Following a successful recovery from an eye ailment, Anthony Davis made a record-tying performance to continue his impressive shooting season.
Russell tied Nick Van Exel for the most three-pointers made in a single season by a Lakers player with his 27 points and six three-pointers. Up until Monday, Van Exel’s record of 183 from the 1994–1995 season remained unsurpassed.
Knowing how much this organization means to me is a wonderful feeling, Russell said to Spectrum SportsNet.
In addition, Russell owns the Brooklyn Nets record for the most threes made in a season. The only season he was an All-Star was 2018–19, when he drilled 234.
Russell’s shooting ability during the season was dubbed “phenomenal” by Davis.
He can score goals at will, of course. Davis said, “He can get hot at any minute.” “He can get going and finish the stat sheet.” It is significant for both him and our staff.
Russell was “hands down the best shooter on our team,” according to Lakers coach Darvin Ham, so he had lots of freedom to shoot whenever he wanted.
Then Ham made a joke about giving Russell more than simply the all-clear to fire.
“I want him to shoot the three point line with as much aggression as possible. His room is green. Not a sign to proceed. An area in green.
Two days after departing the Golden State game due to an eye poke, Davis finished with 22 points and 15 rebounds.
Simply was unable to see. In fact, the corneal abrasion was located precisely in the center of my eye. It wasn’t as peripheral as that. Thus, everything was always hazy when I looked,” Davis said. I just thought there was sand in my eyes. Simply put, it was preferable closed.
According to Davis, the swelling began to lessen late on Saturday night. He spent as much time as possible in the dark before seeing an ophthalmologist on Sunday morning. Davis said that he had “been through that phase in high school” and would not wear goggles during a game.
Against Atlanta on Monday, he made 10 of 14 shots without the need for goggles and sat out the fourth quarter due to the Lakers’ commanding lead.
The Lakers weren’t quite overjoyed by the injury news.
With his injured left knee, backup big man Christian Wood was set to have arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday and is anticipated to miss the remainder of the regular season. Due to knee swelling, Wood had not played since February 14. As a result, the Lakers had a weak frontcourt, with only Davis and Jaxson Hayes able to play center for extended periods of time.
On Monday, everything seemed to be in order. For the Lakers, the ball flowed fast and effectively, as it has on other occasions this season. 52 field goals by the Lakers resulted in 39 assists, a remarkable total against any club at any point in time. Even the unfortunate Hawks.
“It’s amazing how much ball movement there was to get 39 assists,” Ham said.
Along with his 25 points, LeBron James also had 10 assists.
The Hawks (30-38) dropped to 6-6 after All-Star guard Trae Young was forced to sit out with a finger injury. Jalen Johnson had 25 points in the loss.
