Kylian Mbappé warns PSG’s Champions League opponents to wake up.

Even if Kylian Mbappé is leaving the French city, Paris Saint-Germain is still a formidable squad as long as he is in the starting lineup.
With two outstanding goals in a 2-1 victory against Real Sociedad, the World Cup champion demonstrated why PSG is back in the Champions League quarterfinals for the first time in three years.

“We immediately realized that we wouldn’t be able to sleep,” Mbappé said after the game. “They would have continued with the support of their supporters if they had taken the lead. We had to put an early stop to their dreams.”We are thrilled to be back in the quarterfinals after doing that.”
Mbappé also scored a goal in PSG’s 2-0 victory in the first leg in Paris three weeks before, as the team won 4-1 overall. According to ESPN, Mbappé has already informed PSG that he won’t be sticking with them beyond this season, with a transfer to Real Madrid becoming likely.

PSG had been knocked out of the Champions League five times in the previous seven seasons, including the past two, despite massive investment to attempt to win the competition for the first time. They finished second in 2020 and advanced to the semifinals in 2021.
“We wanted to qualify, but we also wanted to win,” Mbappé said. “We were able to score early because we had a clear game plan. We were under a little strain at the finish, but not too much.”
Notwithstanding his valiant performance against Sociedad, Mbappé had not scored in his previous two games—two draws against Rennes and AS Monaco—and had been substituted off in each of them by Luis Enrique, a decision that ESPN insiders said did not sit well with his star player.
However, Mbappé continued to play until the very end on Tuesday and reaffirmed to the press that he and the PSG coach were on good terms after the match.
“There is no problem with him even if people think there is a problem,” Mbappé said. “I have problems, but the coach is not one of them.”
Even more bluntly worded, Luis Enrique said, “I don’t have any problem with any player.”
The PSG coach said, “He can score 50 goals and provide 25 assists with any coach.” “In my opinion, he is the world’s finest player in the last third—unstoppable. He also shown today that he can keep the ball when the circumstances of the game call for it before attacking the wide field.”
At 25 years and 76 days, Mbappé became the second-youngest player to achieve 45 goals in Champions League group stage and knockout play with his two goals versus Sociedad. At 24 years and 257 days, Lionel Messi achieved that milestone, while Mbappé now has 46 goals.
