On Sunday night, Klay Thompson stunned the internet with a deep 3-pointer that banked off the backboard.
In the last seconds of the fourth quarter of the Golden State Warriors’ 109-104 victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves, he beat the buzzer by juking Austin Rivers with a pivot step.
Thompson led the Warriors to back-to-back victories on Friday by finishing the game with a team-high 32 points and 42 against the Houston Rockets. Steph Curry and Draymond Green, two key defenders for Golden State, which is now eighth in the Western Conference, are out injured. A family problem has kept All-Star Andrew Wiggins away as well.
Thompson said that because of their absence, he has had to handle the ball more and take on a leadership position he has never had to before.
After the victory against the Timberwolves, he stated on NBA TV, “I’m out there talking more than I ever had to.” It’s not exactly in my comfort zone since I’m not the most loud person, but it has helped me develop so much as a player and a leader, and I’m having a fantastic time during this period when our players are getting fit.
OPINION:Klay Thompson is finally returning to his midrange shooting origins, which is assisting the Warriors in righting the ship.
NEWS:Steph Curry’s leg injury might keep him out for many weeks.
When fifth-year player Donte DiVincenzo scored 21 points and eight-year veteran Kevon Looney grabbed 17 rebounds, there are advantages to other role players gaining minutes. According to Thompson, the additional playing time will provide much-needed postseason experience.
Thompson said that despite venturing outside of his comfort zone, there is some familiarity with the circumstance. Last year, Curry and Green both had injuries. In their attempt to reach the playoffs, the Warriors lost nine of their first eleven games, but they finally won the 2022 championship.
The four-time winner added, “We had a rough patch, and people were questioning our championship hopes, but I see the same sort of perseverance from this club this year, and I believe it’s simply going to pay off so well come playoffs.”
