Jessica Simpson posts a throwback picture on social media to commemorate her six years clean.

Celebrating her sixth year sober, Jessica Simpson honored a “unrecognizable” former self.

Simpson shared a link to a photo she took of herself on November 1, 2021, her first day clean, four years earlier, in an Instagram story on Thursday.

In her 2020 book “Open Book,” the multi-hyphenate detailed how she first became dependent on booze to calm her anxiety during her tumultuous 2006 romance with singer-songwriter John Mayer. Her career-related stress and unresolved childhood trauma kept her reaching for the bottle.

She spent the day before the day she stopped drinking getting ready for a Halloween party she and her husband Eric Johnson were holding, as she describes in her book. That day, she’d had her first drink before 7:30 a.m. She realized she was in no shape to assist the former NFL tight end when he asked if she would want to help him dress their kids.

According to Simpson’s book, “I was terrified of letting them see me in that shape.” “It pains me to admit that I have no idea who dressed them up that evening.”

Simpson called her closest friends together the next morning and told them she had to make a change.

“I must give up. Something needs to give. She informed the group, “And if alcohol is the cause of this and is making things worse, then I quit.” They gave her a hug and informed her that they had spent the last six months preparing for an intervention.

“The fact that I was such a mess and they felt the need to step in didn’t break my heart. The fact that they felt compelled to go behind my back hurt my heart,” the woman added. But they had a point. Alcohol was not the solution to my underlying issues, which I couldn’t find until I gave up the crutch.

She vowed fervently to recover with the help of friends, family, and medical experts. She also faced the trauma she had experienced as a young child and never learned to process, which she had previously revealed to The Times in 2020 as the primary reason of her addiction.

“Six years ago,” she wrote on Thursday, acknowledging her progress subtly. The feeling expressed in the original post from 2021 was amplified by the statement’s simplicity.

“I realized right then and there that I would allow myself to reclaim my light, triumph over my inner struggle for self-respect, and face this world with a sharp clarity,” the message said. “The problem wasn’t the drinking. I did. I had no affection for myself. I had no regard for my own authority. Now, I do.
