There are instances when celebrity fashion is just beautiful, and then there are the outfits that truly remain with you and that you frantically want to replicate at home. The editors of Fashionista are revisiting some of their all-time favourite looks in “Great Outfits in Fashion History.”
With her careless grace, Jennifer Aniston consistently tops the list of “It” females from the early 2000s. She offered several notable instances of casual-yet-sophisticated fashion at a time of excessive glitter, wacky designs, and a clear love with denim. Perhaps the “Friends” star’s brilliance or her fashionable hair made her stand out, but for me, it was her consistently polished but understated style that truly caught my eye.
She nailed the point with a stylish but approachable style at the 2002 Los Angeles premiere of her movie “The Good Girl”; in fact, one could easily reproduce this, since each item is pretty straightforward. A basic white tank top serves as the foundation of the ensemble, which is embellished with dangling gold earrings and many creatively stacked necklaces. The next item is the statement piece, in this instance a midnight-blue, floor-length maxi skirt with ripples that cinches at the waist and contrasts the white tank just enough. These two alone themselves wouldn’t draw any attention. But when combined in a creative way? Real magic.
The footwear is also crucial, and Aniston chose a pair of traditional brown sandals. (Yes, this is the world premiere of her film, and no six-inch stilettos are to be seen.) Unsurprisingly for 2002, she kept her glam modest and natural with a simple lip, a little of blush, and natural, complementing eye makeup. She exuded a balance that we all want to achieve: she seemed at ease while yet glowing.
This is a look that might be worn for a summertime lunch, a stroll around the city, or even just lounging on the park’s grass.
