In the second round of the South region of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, the men’s basketball team of Oakland Golden Grizzlies will play the North Carolina State Wolfpack to continue their historic run.
In Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the No. 14-seeded Golden Grizzlies (24-11) will take on the No. 11 NC State Wolfpack (23-14).

In the opening round of play on Thursday night, Oakland defeated Kentucky, the third seed, 80-76, behind the 32-point performance and 10 3-pointers from Jack Gohlke. Trey Townsend, the Horizon League Player of the Year, scored 17 points in the victory. With 28 seconds left, DQ Cole made a corner three to give the Golden Grizzlies a four-point advantage.
Prior to playing on Saturday, NC State had won six consecutive games. On Thursday, they defeated No. 6 seed Texas Tech 80-67 in a first-round match.
In the five days of the ACC tournament, the Wolfpack won five games, the most notable of which was an 84-76 triumph against North Carolina in the title match.
This is NC State’s third trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2018. It is their second consecutive year. The Wolfpack last advanced to the Sweet 16 in 2015. They had won national championships in 1974 and 1983.
In the Sweet 16, the victor of Saturday’s matchup will take on either No. 2 seed Marquette or No. 10 seed Colorado.
