Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is out with a neck injury and will have an MRI.

Daniel Jones of the New York Giants departed Sunday’s 31-16 defeat to the Miami Dolphins in the fourth quarter with a neck injury.

Jones was injured after Andrew Van Ginkel sacked him from behind. He was escorted off the field by trainers and evaluated in the medical tent before proceeding to the locker room. Within minutes, he was declared out and replaced by Tyrod Taylor.

“I feel fine,” Jones stated afterwards. “I clearly think I’m in pain.” It’s a physical game. Meet with the physicians and trainers first, and then proceed.”

Jones had an X-ray at the stadium after signing a four-year, $160 million contract this summer. He said that they were still reviewing the findings. On Monday, he will get an MRI to determine his condition.

Van Ginkel raced off the edge almost unnoticed by left tackle Joshua Ezeudu and collided with Jones in the back. Jones’ body twisted up as he collapsed.

“It’s just my neck.” My neck hurts. “Just some neck pain,” Jones said, admitting there was more to it than that. He was allowed to exit the locker area with his backpack and carry-on duffle bag on his back.

Jones said that he realized something was amiss as soon as he struck the ground and that he would have to abandon the game.

It’s not the first time he’s felt this way. He missed the last six games of the 2021 season due to a neck ailment and ultimately had an unrelated treatment that summer. According to ESPN, Jones was dealing with a disc ailment at the time. This seems to be at least slightly equivalent at the present.

“Yeah, it’s tough to say for sure,” Jones said. “We dealt with a similar problem [in 2021].” I’ll consult with the physicians and trainers before proceeding.”

Coach Brian Daboll said it was too early to offer any information on his quarterback after the game. After the game, Daboll was reassured by his quarterback that it was nothing major.

“I saw him as I walked in. “He was at his locker,” Daboll said. “I inquired as to how he was doing. ‘I’ll be OK,’ he replied.

Given the thrashing Jones has been receiving, it was just a matter of time before his health would be jeopardized. On Sunday, he was sacked for the sixth time in the game, injuring him. Jones has now been sacked 28 times this season.

“You don’t want that,” Daboll pointed out. “Affecting the quarterback is critical in the game. We need to find out how to better safeguard him.”

Jones had another difficult game against the Dolphins. He was always under pressure and completed 14-of-20 for 119 yards with no touchdowns or picks. Taylor went 9-of-12 for 86 yards while being pressured constantly and sacked once.

“It’s a part of playing the position,” Jones said. “You’re going to get hit in the NFL.” On the flip side, there are some strong pass rushers. So I have to think about what I can do to get the ball out of my hands and into space.”

The offense in New York has now gone 125 minutes without scoring a touchdown. The Giants (1-4) meet the Buffalo Bills on the road next Sunday night. Jones, running back Saquon Barkley (ankle), left tackle Andrew Thomas (hamstring), and center John Michael Schmitz (shoulder) all have questionable statuses.

Jones isn’t sure where his worry level should be after the Giants’ third straight defeat and his newest ailment.

“Yeah, it’s tough to say right now,” he said. “Just meet with the doctors and trainers and go from there.”
