Fantasia Barrino and Oprah Winfrey honor Tina Turner at the 2024 Grammys.

Tina Turner’s incredible history was celebrated with a stunning presentation at the 2024 Grammy Awards, beginning with poignant comments from her friend Oprah Winfrey and ending with a show-stopping rendition of “Proud Mary” by Fantasia Barrino.

To wrap out the Grammys’ multi-performance In Memoriam portion, Winfrey addressed the stage to highlight Turner’s personal influence on her as a lifelong admirer, as well as how Turner’s legacy will continue to stand strong in popular music. “Tina’s voice continues to speak to all of us,” Winfrey told the stadium audience before handing over the stage to multi-instrumentalist Adam Blackstone and Barrino.

Barrino, a vocal powerhouse and skilled performer, took on the daunting job of successfully replicating Turner’s onstage vigor, inspiring the audience at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles to get up and dance on Sunday night (Feb. 4). Barrino entered the audience as the speed increased, causing Dua Lipa to sway her hips before advancing onto Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s table and sitting onto a platform in the middle of the stadium. Instead of finishing the In Memoriam portion on a melancholy note, Barrino charmed the crowd and lifted the show to new heights.

Barrino, a former American Idol winner, recently featured in The Color Purple and won Best Female R&B Vocal Performance in 2011. In Memoriam included performances by Jon Batiste and Annie Lennox, among others.
