Duke and North Carolina will play Saturday in the Dean Smith Center for the first time since 2019, when both teams are rated in the top ten. As February begins, the No. 3 Tar Heels have a one-game lead over the No. 7 Blue Devils in the ACC loss column, with both teams vying for a conference championship and a top NCAA Tournament seed.

The combined strength of Duke and North Carolina adds to the drama of an already fiercely fought battle. against 16-4 (7-2 ACC), the Blue Devils have won 11 of their past 12 games since losing their ACC opener against Georgia Tech on December 2.

North Carolina also fell to Georgia Tech, who stunned the Tar Heels on Wednesday, ending their 10-game winning run. The defeat ended North Carolina’s record as the final major conference club to remain unblemished against league opponents. However, the Tar Heels remain unbeaten at home and can extend their lead in the ACC standings to two games with a victory.

Last season, these clubs split the regular season series, with the home team winning each game. It’s time to start a new chapter on Tobacco Road, as numerous players from both teams receive their first taste of the rivalry.

Duke vs. North Carolina predictions and choices

Odds from Sportsline consensus

There is plenty of familiarity on both sides, as RJ Davis leads the Tar Heels into this game while having the greatest season of his four-year career. He and inside sidekick Armando Bacot have had their share of clashes with Duke. With their leadership, UNC should win this game at home. The Blue Devils, however, reply with their own grizzled warrior, senior guard Jeremy Roach. They also feature a roster of very skilled rookies, highlighted by Jared McCain, as well as sophomores capable of offensive pyrotechnics. Duke should be able to keep this game close and even pull off an upset.
