Drew Barrymore Leaves Event After Fan Rushes Stage, Saying, ‘You Know Who I Am, I Need to See You’

Drew Barrymore abruptly departed the stage at New York City’s 92nd Street Y on Monday night when an audience member stormed the platform and started speaking to her.

At the Upper Manhattan location, Barrymore was interviewing actor-singer Reneé Rapp when a guy interrupted and exclaimed, “Drew Barrymore!”

“Oh my goodness, yes?” Hi!” As an audience member approached Barrymore, she reacted, flustered.

“I’m Chad Michael Busto, you know who I am,” he introduced himself. “I really need to see you while I’m in New York.”

The audience member was then surrounded on all sides by 92NY security, who told him to “back up” while Rapp securely took Barrymore offstage.

Barrymore and Rapp are said to have reunited to talk about Rapp’s newly released first album “Snow Angel.” “It was such an amazing time despite the alarming hiccup in the beginning with Drew’s stalker,” entertainment writer McKenzie Morrell posted on Twitter. Both handled it like bosses, swiftly recovering to resume an amazing chat.”

Variety’s request for comment was not immediately responded to by representatives for Barrymore, Rapp, or the 92NY.

The following was said on the 92NY website about the event: “Join acclaimed singer-songwriter and actress Reneé Rapp for a conversation with Drew Barrymore on her debut LP Snow Angel, followed by a special performance.” The description adds, “Hear Rapp discuss the making of the record, the personal experiences behind new songs like ‘Snow Angel’ and fan-favorites like ‘In the Kitchen,’ stories from the studio, and much more.” Rapp, who launched her first album on August 18, just left Season 3 of the Max sitcom “The Sex Lives of College Girls” to pursue her music career. Rapp will also play Regina George in the forthcoming “Mean Girls” film musical.

Barrymore is currently shooting Season 3 of her variety talk programme “The Drew Barrymore Show,” which is being shot in New York City.
