Declan Rice makes his debut as Arsenal defeats the MLS All-Stars in Washington, D.C.

Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard scored spectacular goals before halftime to propel Premier League powerhouse Arsenal to a 5-0 win against the MLS All-Stars in the 2023 MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday in Washington, D.C.

Jorginho converted a penalty kick shortly after the second half started for the Gunners, who are in preseason mode after placing second in the English Premier League in 2022-23.

Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz scored late goals as Arsenal handed the MLS All-Stars their worst loss in the annual game’s current format. The Gunners also maintained their unblemished record in the tournament, having won 2-1 in 2016.

Trossard departed the game in the 56th minute after temporarily going down with an injury, however he walked off on his own.

Declan Rice, Arsenal’s most expensive summer addition at £105 million, came on in the 65th minute for his first preseason outing.

The MLS All-Stars were outshot 16-7 overall and 5-1 on goal by former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney’s team.

After competing against a squad of all-stars from Mexico’s Liga MX in the 2021 and 2022 tournaments, this was the first time the MLS players faced a European club team in the game since 2019.

Inter Miami CF has made a new signing. Lionel Messi did not play in Major League Soccer. On Tuesday, the reigning World Cup winner and former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain player took part in his first training session with Miami.

After a good start from the MLS All-Stars, Arsenal took the lead on their first offensive sequence.

When Bukayo Saka was dispossessed inside the penalty area, the MLS side seemed to have ended the threat.

However, the ball fell to Jesus, who scored in the fifth minute with an incredible first-time chip with his right foot that soared cleanly over St. Louis City FC goalie Roman Burki and off the inside of the left post.

Trossard extended the advantage 18 minutes later with an almost identical goal. Saka was engaged once again, driving down the right side and delivering a square ball to Trossard near the penalty arc.

Trossard received the ball, went to his right to avoid the marking of Jose Martinez of the Philadelphia Union, and smashed a right-footed shot past Burki’s dive and into the upper right corner.
