Darius Rucker Arrested in Tennessee for Alleged Minor Drug Misdemeanor; Released on Bond.

Darius Rucker was arrested for a minor narcotics charge in Williamson County, Tennessee, on Thursday.

“Darius Rucker is fully cooperating with authorities regarding misdemeanor charges,” Rucker’s lawyer stated in a statement to PEOPLE.

The artist, 57, was charged with two charges of simple possession/casual exchange of a controlled drug and one count of violating Tennessee’s vehicle registration statute, the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office told PEOPLE.

Authorities have not identified the restricted drug.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office took Rucker into jail and booked him on three misdemeanor counts. The country singer was freed on a $10,500 bail and is no longer in detention.

It is unclear what led to Rucker’s arrest. According to TMZ, which originally reported the arrest, Rucker apparently possessed expired automobile plates.

Rucker released his most recent album, Carolyn’s Boy, in October. It is his first solo album in six years, and it includes “very personal songs,” he told PEOPLE. He named it after his mother Carolyn, who died in 1992.

“She’s been gone for so long, but I still think about her every day,” Rucker added. “She was my greatest champion…” “I hope I am making her proud.”

In December, the former Hootie & the Blowfish lead vocalist was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Rucker was accompanied by his three children, Carolyn, 28, Daniella, 22, and Jack, 18, whom he addressed throughout his statement.

“Cary, Dani, and Jack are my heart, they’re my soul,” the guitarist stated. “They’re everything to me and everything I do is for them.”

“It’s just been an amazing thing to be your father,” Rucker said as he turned to his children. “As wonderful as all of this is, it’s not as fantastic as being your father, and I really mean it. “I adore you all.”

The “Wagon Wheel” singer told PEOPLE in June 2023 that he tries to communicate with his children even when on the road.

“When phones and FaceTime came into play, it made things a lot easier,” he said at the time. “[I] just try to call every day.”

“The way we tour is great,” the Charleston native added. “We only tour on the weekend, so it’s three days a week and the other four days [I’m] pretty much home, so that makes it a lot easier.”
