As of early Saturday afternoon, a programme spokesperson was unable to confirm the story; yet, TMZ released a statement from the Morris family. The reason of death is yet unknown.

“With great sadness we announce the passing of our dearly beloved son, Darius Aaron Morris,” said the statement. “During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”
From 2009 to 2011, Morris was a prominent player for the Wolverines. During his sophomore season, he was chosen to the third team of the Big Ten and established a programme record with 235 assists. After his sophomore season, the Los Angeles native entered the NBA draft and was selected by his hometown Lakers with the 41st selection in 2011. He averaged 15.0 points and 6.7 assists that year.
Over the course of two seasons at Ann Arbour, Morris played in 67 games (53 starts), averaging 9.9 points, 4.8 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game.
In reaction to Morris’ passing, former Michigan coach John Beilein sent a statement on social media.
On X (previously Twitter), Beilein said, “Saddened to hear about the passing of former Wolverine Darius Morris.” “Darius was our starting point guard in 2010–11 (sic). He played a key role in that game-changing 21-win campaign that set the stage for Michigan’s subsequent ten years of prosperity. RIP DMo and my sympathies go out to the Morris family.”
U-M made four consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament starting with the 2010–11 season. During that time, the Wolverines won two Big Ten regular season crowns and advanced to both the Elite Eight (2014) and the national championship game (2013).
Morris played with the Lakers for portions of two seasons, most notably the 2012–13 campaign during which he started every one of his 17 career games alongside Kobe Bryant. Morris subsequently played for the Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Memphis Grizzlies. Over the course of six years and 132 games, he averaged 3.3 points, 1.4 assists, and 1.0 rebounds. The 2014–15 NBA season was his last game.
