Cowboys FA Tony Pollard Lands Titans Contract amid Derrick Henry Rumors

NFL source Jordan Schultz reports that free-agent running back Tony Pollard intends to join with the Tennessee Titans.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Pollard will sign a $24 million, three-year deal.

The Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants reportedly had interest in Pollard as well, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic.
Only a few days have passed since ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said Derrick Henry was not likely to go back to Tennessee.
Last season, the 26-year-old Pollard accumulated 1,316 total yards and six touchdowns on the ground. In addition, he had 311 receiving yards on 55 receptions and 1,005 running yards on 252 runs (4.0 YPC).
After spending four seasons either behind or next to Ezekiel Elliott in the Cowboys’ backfield, this was Pollard’s first season as the team’s genuine number one. After the 2022 season, Dallas dismissed Elliott, which allowed Pollard to take the starting position. With 1,378 yards and 12 touchdowns in a Pro Bowl season, Pollard was given the franchise tag by the Cowboys.
After suffering a broken left fibula in the playoffs the previous year against the San Francisco 49ers, Pollard had a strong comeback performance in 2023. In all 17 of the team’s regular-season games, he participated and started, and he ended with a career-high 307 touches.
Regretfully, Pollard’s 2022 efficiency rate of 5.2 yards per run paled in comparison. Throughout his first four seasons, Pollard ran for 5.1 yards per carry, but in 2023, that total dropped by more than a yard.
In the red zone, Pollard was particularly ineffective, gaining only 161 yards and four touchdowns on 57 attempts (2.8 YPC). Pollard had 23 carries for 99 yards and six TDs (4.3 YPC) the previous year.
It’s reasonable to be curious in Pollard’s performance in 2024. According to the pessimistic viewpoint, Pollard may never fully recover from his shattered ankle. Conversely, Pollard recently recorded more than 300 touches in 17 games after recovering from a major injury less than a year ago. Of course, it might be advantageous to spend the summer strengthening for the next season rather than recovering from a past injury.
In the end, Tennessee is hoping that Pollard can have a season that is closer like his 2022 performance. Nevertheless, he overcame a catastrophic leg injury to pull off an incredible recovery, and he can definitely return to the main back position.
