Carmelo Anthony, a 10-time NBA All-Star and one of the game’s all-time leading scorers, has announced his retirement.

Carmelo Anthony, one of the best scorers in NBA history, has announced his retirement from the game at the age of 38.
Anthony, the third overall choice in the 2003 NBA Draught, had a 19-year career that featured 10 NBA All-Star appearances, six All-NBA selections, a scoring championship, and selection to the NBA’s 75th anniversary team.

His ability to score the basketball made him one of the most feared and popular players in the league for most of his career, and his 28,289 career points rank him eighth all-time.
During his undergraduate career, Anthony memorably led Syracuse to its first national men’s basketball championship as a freshman, before going on to play in the NBA with the Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers, and Los Angeles Lakers.
Anthony earned three Olympic gold medals as a member of Team USA, at Rio in 2016, London in 2012, and Beijing in 2008, as well as one bronze medal in Athens in 2004.
“I remember the days when I had nothing, just a ball on the court and dreamed of something more,” Anthony stated in his retirement video. “But basketball was my outlet, my purpose was strong, my communities, the cities I proudly represented, and the fans who supported me along the way.””But now the time has come for me to say goodbye – to the court where I made my name to the game that gave me purpose and pride, but this is a bittersweet goodbye to the NBA.” “I am looking forward to what the future holds for me.”
Anthony started his career with the Nuggets and immediately established himself as one of the league’s top players.
In 2009, he led Denver to its first Western Conference Finals trip since 1985, when they were defeated by the eventual champions, the Los Angeles Lakers.
During the 2010/11 season, he was traded to the New York Knicks in a widely publicised transaction, however he only made it through the first round of the Playoffs once during his tenure at Madison Square Garden.
at January 2014, Anthony set a career best and a Knicks franchise record with a 62-point effort at the Garden against the Charlotte Bobcats.
He was moved to the Thunder in 2017 and then to the Rockets in 2018, where he played just a few games before being cut.
In November 2019, more than a year after his last NBA appearance, he signed with the Trail Blazers and had something of a resurrection, going on to play a key part in the club making the playoffs during the NBA bubble.
After two seasons in Portland, when he broke into the top ten of the NBA’s all-time scoring record, Anthony signed with the Lakers for the 2021/22 season, his last active year in the NBA, as the club finished 11th in the Western Conference.
“You’re such a legend and beyond my brother,” LeBron James, who went first overall in the same recruiting class, commented on Instagram.
“Congratulations on a wild ride.”
In a tweet, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said, “Carmelo Anthony is one of the NBA’s all-time great players and ambassadors.” We congratulate him on a fantastic 19-year career and look forward to seeing him in the Hall of Fame.”

Most players, Anthony remembered, would laugh and tell him it wasn’t a good habit.
During road trips to Sacramento, California, he learned to comprehend the value and quality of wines by visiting wine clubs selling varietals from neighbouring Napa Valley and other areas of the globe.
Anthony’s enthusiasm for wine grew when he was transferred from the Nuggets to the Knicks in 2011.
“It just introduced me to a whole new world of wine lovers, different wines, different chats, different palates.” And I understood from away that this was a genre I wanted to be a part of.”
According to Anthony, other players in the league gradually began to appreciate Burgundy, Bordeaux, and Beaujolais.
