Broncos Wide Receiver Tim Patrick ruptures his Achilles during practise.

Tim Patrick, a wide receiver with the Denver Broncos who missed the 2022 season due to a damaged right ACL, sustained a torn left Achilles during practise Monday, according to ESPN.

Patrick was taken off the field with the injury, and an MRI confirmed the Achilles rupture, as originally reported by Denver’s 9News, meaning the receiver will miss his second straight season due to an injury.

Later that day, the Broncos suffered another blow to their wide receiver depth chart when KJ Hamler stated on Instagram that he had been diagnosed with pericarditis, a “mild heart irritation.” He said that he would miss some time but will return to the pitch this season after receiving medicine.

Patrick tore his ACL on August 5, last year. Patrick fell to the ground during a 7-on-7 exercise on Monday because there was no defender around.

“I was watching it directly, he was running a route, it was something we had corrected earlier, on air, planted, thought it looked like he slipped,” stated coach Sean Payton.

Patrick, a team emotional leader, topped the squad in touchdown catches (five) in 2021, his last full season.

“Many people can’t compete like him,” said Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain II.

Payton was asked how upsetting it was to watch Patrick taken off the practise field after witnessing how hard the receiver worked throughout the summer to be ready to play a key part in the offence.

“Oh my gosh, I think especially with a player like him… who’s so well respected,” Payton said.

It extends the Broncos’ streak of awful injury luck at the position. Over the previous three seasons, Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, Hamler, and Patrick have only played two games together.

Sutton tore his ACL in 2020, Hamler tore his ACL and injured his hip in 2021, and Patrick tore his ACL last year.
