Brock Purdy and the 49ers ruin Tom Brady’s homecoming

Brock Purdy has gone from Mr. Irrelevant in the 2022 NFL Draft to upsetting Tom Brady’s homecoming.

Purdy threw for 185 yards and two touchdowns, outdueling Brady. Purdy also added a running touchdown. Purdy’s father became emotional after his first touchdown pass as his family watched in Levi Stadium.

Purdy, the penultimate choice in this year’s draught out of Iowa State, was pushed into the fray last week after starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo injured his foot.

After the game, Purdy termed it “surreal” to be playing on the same field as Brady.

Purdy told reporters, “I was thinking, ‘Man, that’s Tom Brady,’ chatting to them and dapping them up.”

“He respecting what I accomplished today was cool, I won’t lie. As a kid, watching him win Super Bowls, I felt it was cool to give him a high five at the conclusion.

Purdy also praised his family’s support.

Brady, 45, praised Purdy’s performance after the game.

Brady told reporters he “threw well.” “They held out during the blitz and did well”

Brady’s family was in attendance, although he hoped the team had done better.

Brady: “Love having everyone here.” “Happy to see my family. Many neighbours probably came. It’s not going to impact the outcome of the game, unfortunately.”

FOX anchor Erin Andrews reported Brady requested 100 seats for friends and family.

The 49ers are 9-4 and the Buccaneers are 6-7.

San Francisco plays Seattle on Thursday night. Sunday, Tampa hosts the Bengals.
