Britney Spears is working with a dream team of Hollywood lawyers in her divorce from Sam Asghari.

Britney Spears and her husband Sam Asghari have split after 14 months of marriage, according to Variety, and the pop singer is being represented by a dream team of Hollywood attorneys as she prepares for divorce.

According to Variety, Spears has recruited top celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasser and will continue to work with her formidable attorney, Mathew Rosengart, a former federal prosecutor who famously got her out of her conservatorship and out of her father’s authority.

Wasser and Rosengart did not immediately reply to Variety’s request for comment.

Asghari — a trainer, model, and actor who has starred on “Black Monday” and “Hacks” — proposed to Spears in September 2021, and the pair married in June 2022. They’d been dating for almost five years, having met on the filming of Spears’ 2016 music video for “Slumber Party,” a song from her “Glory” album.

Variety’s request for comment on the split was not responded to by an Asghari spokesperson.

Spears was still under conservatorship when she became engaged to Asghari. She was, however, on the verge of being free of the legal arrangement, with Rosengart working tirelessly and successfully to have the court suspend her father, which was the first stage in the final termination of the conservatorship.

When she testified near the end of her 13-year conservatorship, Spears expressed a desire to marry Asghari and have more children, but claimed she did not have permission to do so because her conservators, including her father, Jamie Spears, controlled her finances and essentially every aspect of her life. “I’d like to progress gradually, and I’d like to have the real deal, to be able to marry and have a child.” “I was told in the conservatorship that I can’t get married or have a baby right now,” Spears appealed to the court in June 2021.

Legal experts verified to Variety at the time of the couple’s engagement that under a conservatorship, the conservatee does not have the authority to enter into any form of arrangement on their own, therefore a marriage licence would have required to be granted by conservators. “Technically, she can’t sign off on the marriage licence while she is under conservatorship,” an attorney noted.

A court awarded Spears the right to executive paperwork on her own for the first time in over 13 years in December 2021, the month after her conservatorship was removed. This included signing off on a marriage licence. “She has the authority to do whatever she wants,” Rosengart told reporters outside the courtroom. The pair married around six months later.

Spears and Asghari married in front of 60 guests, including Madonna, Selena Gomez, Drew Barrymore, and Paris Hilton, at Spears’ house in Thousand Oaks, Calif. Her father, Lynn Spears, and sister Jamie Lynn Spears were not there.

Spears married Asghari for the third time. The previous couple is not parents to any children. Spears and Asghari confirmed her pregnancy in April 2022, two months before their wedding. The singer announced the baby’s death the following month.

Her second husband, Kevin Federline, her former backup dancer, to whom she was married from 2004 to 2007, has two teenage boys, Sean and Jayden. In 2005, the pair featured in “Britney and Kevin: Chaotic,” a short-lived reality programme. The singer’s first marriage was to a childhood friend, Jason Alexander, and it was cancelled in 2004 after just 55 hours of marriage. Alexander interrupted Spears’ wedding to Asghari in 2022 and was arrested for trespassing at her house.

Spears previously worked with Wasser when she was fighting Federline for custody of their two sons, so this is not the first time the “Baby One More Time” singer has worked with the attorney, who has also represented Kim Kardashian, Kevin Costner, Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp, and others in high-profile divorces.

In terms of her business life, Spears has recorded two songs following the end of her conservatorship: one with Elton John, “Hold Me Closer,” and another with will.i.am, “Mind Your Business.” Spears is due to issue a highly anticipated tell-all memoir in October, for which she has struck a record multi-million dollar book contract.

Spears and Asghari have not commented on their breakup.
