Bengals survive overtime after losing Chase, Reader, and Ivey.

Wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals was forced to miss Saturday’s 27-24 overtime victory against the Minnesota Vikings due to a right shoulder injury.

Chase was downgraded to out in the fourth quarter after being deemed doubtful at first. With four receptions for sixty-four yards, he concluded the game.

After extending a drive early in the fourth quarter with a 24-yard reception, he seemed to be hurting his right shoulder. He briefly visited the sidelines before getting back into the action. With almost three minutes remaining in regulation, quarterback Jake Browning found running back Joe Mixon for a 4-yard throw, which proved to be his last play.

Both rookie defensive back DJ Ivey and defensive tackle DJ Reader sustained knee injuries in the first half of play, which cost the Bengals their jobs.

After a collision at the line of scrimmage in the first quarter, Reader was declared out of the game. Reader was carted off the field by Cincinnati’s medical crew shortly after he fell down. Before the Vikings could complete their offensive drive, he was declared out of the game.

In recent years, the veteran has been one of Cincinnati’s defense’s most vital players. During 2020 free agency, the Clemson athlete in his seventh year inked a contract with Cincinnati. The Bengals, who concluded the 2019 season with the poorest record in the NFL, made their first major acquisition with his four-year, $53 million contract.

Reader was hailed by Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo earlier in the week for being the team’s most reliable defender so far this year. The reader is nearing the end of his deal with the team.

Ivey suffered a left knee injury in the second quarter that forced him out of the game. While attempting to make a tackle on a punt return, the seventh-round selection suffered an injury.
