At 98 years old, Dick Van Dyke becomes the oldest-ever winner of a daytime Emmy.

Thanks to his appearance on Peacock’s “Days of Our Lives,” legendary actor and comedian Dick Van Dyke made history by winning the 2024 Daytime Emmy award for guest performance in a daytime drama series. Van Dyke is now the oldest performer to win a Daytime Emmy at the age of 98.
Being the oldest nominee for a Daytime Emmy ever, Van Dyke made history as the 51st Daytime Emmy Awards approached on Friday. On Friday, June 7, CBS broadcast live coverage of the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards from the Westin Bonaventure hotel located in Downtown Los Angeles.

Van Dyke said, “I feel like a spy from nighttime television.” “I am the oldest nominee in the annals of time. It’s unbelievable to me. All my life I was playing elderly guys. I would have taken better care of myself if I had known I would live this long.
Van Dyke claimed to have had a “wonderful time” filming “Days,” and that he “runined the shot” in one solemn sequence by breaking out in laughter.
“It’s unbelievable, but I’m 98 years old. This surpasses an 80-year career in the industry. God bless you, I adore you,” he said.
Van Dyke made an appearance on “Days” as “Mystery Man/Timothy Robicheaux” in a unique four-part plot arc. This is what was said about it: Van Dyke portrays an enigmatic and amnesiac individual. Van Dyke’s character needs Diedre Hall’s Marlena to fill in the blanks in his recollection. She asks Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) and John Black for assistance in order to do this. There could be a musical piece or two in between memory tests.
Thanks to his connection with IDrake Hogestyn, who portrays John Black on “Days,” Van Dyke ended up on the show. Van Dyke and his wife Arlene Silver made appearances on “Days” on September 1, September 4, September 8, and September 14.
Van Dyke defeated a field of nominees that included Guy Pearce as Mike Young from “Neighbours” (Amazon Freevee), Linden Ashby as Cameron Kirsten from “The Young and the Restless” (CBS), Ashley Jones as Dr Bridget Forrester from “The Bold and the Beautiful” (CBS), and Alley Mills as Heather Webber from “General Hospital” (ABC).
Following stints on local radio and television as a DJ, comedian, and emcee, Van Dyke became the host of the “CBS Morning Show,” including Walter Cronkite as his news anchor and Barbara Walters as the news copyrighter. Playing television comedy writer Rob Petrie in the sitcom “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” on CBS, he rose to fame. The legendary set of “The Dick Van Dyke Show” will be back for the CBS birthday special, which will also include archive material from Van Dyke’s entire career, including scenes from “Mary Poppins,” “Bye Bye Birdie,” “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” and more.
Recently, Van Dyke has been seen a lot on CBS. The network celebrated the renowned actor and performer’s 98th birthday with an entertainment spectacular called “Dick Van Dyke: 98 Years of Magic” last year. In 2021, he was also given the Kennedy Centre Honours, which were broadcast on CBS.
Van Dyke also won his first Daytime Emmy in 1984 for “CBS Library,” in the category of best performance in children’s programming.
