Anya Taylor-Joy says Jimmy Fallon “saved her life” at the Met Gala.
“It was my first and only time, and I was wearing a really heavy dress,” Taylor-Joy added.
“At the end of the night, I’m at the top of the stairs when Hailee Steinfeld walks past me in a three-train outfit. Oh, I’ll die on the Met stairs, darling. You literally dragged me out of it like God’s Hand.”
Taylor-Joy appeared on the show to promote her new film, The Menu, which opens Friday.
“You were really lovely, you said ‘I’m Jimmy, good to meet you,'” Taylor-Joy said.
Taylor-Joy, born in Miami and raised in Buenos Aires and London, broke through in The Queen’s Gambit. She stars in The Menu, a restaurant parody. The supper at Hawthorn, an expensive restaurant on a Pacific Northwest island, takes an unexpected turn.

She told The Tonight Show she started acting after being taken onstage at a Beach Boys performance. When requested to model, she showed scouts video of her “shredding” on a guitar at a gig.
She told Fallon that she pantomimed to prove she could act.

The 26-year-old is one of Hollywood’s busiest actresses. She told Fallon she was Princess Peach, her Super Mario Brothers persona. She’ll star in 2024’s Mad Max Furiosa.
Taylor-Joy acted out genuine messages between food delivery drivers and consumers on The Tonight Show with Fallon.
Taylor-Joy has acted in three high-profile films this year, including The Northman and Amsterdam. Robert DeNiro, John David Washington, Rami Malek, and Margot Robbie starred.
