American Idol alumna and Grammy-winning artist Mandisa passed away at the age of 47.

Mandisa, a Grammy-winning contemporary Christian singer who debuted on “American Idol” in 2013 and won an album for “Overcomer,” has passed away. Her age was 47.
The Associated Press was informed by the singer’s publicist that the singer was discovered deceased in her Nashville, Tennessee, home on Thursday. The spokesman said that Mandisa’s death’s cause was yet unknown.

Mandisa Lynn Hundley, whose full name was Mandisa Lynn, was raised singing in churches after being born close to Sacramento, California. After placing ninth on “American Idol” in 2006, she became well-known.
Upon her departure, presenter Ryan Seacrest complimented the artist, calling her “a great spirit on the show.”
Mandisa went on, releasing “True Beauty,” her first album, in 2007. The album was nominated for a Grammy in 2007 for best pop and contemporary gospel album.
She continued, putting out five more albums, one of which was a Christmas record.
Her fifth album, “Overcomer,” earned her a Grammy in 2014 for best contemporary Christian music album.
Mandisa has been transparent about her battles with depression. She published a book in 2022 titled “Out of the Dark: My Journey Through the Shadows to Find God’s Joy” that included details on her experiences with severe depression, difficulties with weight, the coronavirus epidemic, and her faith.
The singer was honored on social media on Friday by the Christian radio network K-Love, which stated: “Mandisa struggled, and she was vulnerable enough to share that with us, which helped us talk about our own struggles.”
