Alum of UNC Basketball Disagrees That Wolfpack Should Get “Something Nice”

Basketball at UNC has an all-time record of 166-80 against neighboring rival NC State. The Tar Heels have swept the Tar Heels’ two regular-season games this year and have won 38 of their previous 44 encounters with the Wolfpack.
And going into Saturday night’s ACC Tournament championship game, Carolina leads State 4-2 in their all-time meetings in the conference final. In 1968, 1975, 1997, and 2007, UNC won; in 1959 and 1987, NC State won.

In reference to 1987, Joe Giglio of OG Media reminded people on social media that the Wolfpack victory at the time equaled the Tar Heels for the most in the ACC with ten points each, three more than Duke. Thirty-seven years later, UNC hopes to score a 19th and get within three of Duke’s highest ranking, while NC State remains entrenched at 10. Consider the drought at NC State. Add to that the No. 10 seed Wolfpack’s unwavering will to win four games in a row at the Capital One Arena, their aspirations of qualifying for the NCAA Tournament, and the fact that head coach Kevin Keatts’ job security has been a major talking point all season.
Considering everything said above, it seems sense that members of the national media are starting to publicly support the Wolfpack, who started the playoffs on a four-game losing skid, to pull off the historic upset over the Tar Heels, the top seed who are presently enjoying an eight-game winning run.
After NC State upset No. 3 seed Virginia on Friday night by somehow forcing OT with a banked-in three at the buzzer, college basketball guru Jeff Goodman said that “Pack fans deserve something nice.”
Kenny Williams III seemed to strongly disagree with Goodman’s assessment. The former four-year UNC basketball player, one-time national champion, and 2018–19 team captain sarcastically wrote the following answer, keeping with the spirit of an ongoing rivalry despite its overwhelming results: “Do they?? Not able to agree.”
