Shawn Mendes is Alicia Keys’s favourite artist.
The hitmaker discusses his role as a mentor for budding musicians like Shawn Mendes in an interview with Keshia Chanté of ET Canada. In response, Keshia Chanté exclaims, “Oh, I love Shawn!”
Keys says this about his role as a mentor to younger people in the industry: “I think that it’s a safe place to communicate. I’m definitely a fantastic ear.” It’s challenging, since you don’t know who to talk to. \s“ I can remember feeling the same way, and I’m feeling the same way right now!”
The musician continues, “I’m a genuine guy, so that goes without saying that I’m not a phoney, that’s another thing.”
Keys continues by saying, “So they love the Shawn… ” afterwards.
That’s correct, he hails from the Great White North! Come on, Canada!”
The singer continues by offering some words of wisdom to aspiring musicians who are just starting out in the industry: “I try to talk. I believe that one of the things that has been very beneficial to me is coming to terms with the fact that I need to have a connection with myself. I believe that a lot of the time, you become so accustomed to listening to everybody else, particularly if you come into a space quite young, you know, everybody’s telling you what to do, and I think that this is especially true if you’ve been in the same place for quite some time. And you end up becoming confused about your responsibilities regarding things.
She stresses that it is essential to make time for yourself, whether that means just putting down your phone while you eat supper, meditating, or journaling about your thoughts and feelings.
