Alex Collins is remembered by the Seattle Seahawks.

The Seattle Seahawks organisation is in grief after the passing of Alex Collins, a valued colleague and fan favourite during his two seasons with the club.

Collins, 28, died as a consequence of a motorbike accident on Monday.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Alex Collins this morning,” stated Collins’ family in a statement. “Alex was adored by his family and friends, as well as fans from all over the world.” Everyone who knows him personally can vouch to his passion, tenacity, and larger-than-life demeanour. Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. We want privacy as we work through our sadness. We will offer funeral arrangements information when they become available.”

“The Seahawks family and the 12s are devastated to learn of Alex’s passing,” said Seahawks executive VP/general manager John Schneider. “Alex’s contagious smile and classic river dance moves will be missed forever.” Alex could brighten up a room and was adored by everyone in our complex. He lived life to the fullest and attacked it on the football pitch. He was one of the SEC’s most prolific runners. Our deepest sympathies go out to his immediate family, the Gatewood family, and his agent, Kelli Masters. Alex, you will be sorely missed. Rest in peace, brother, on behalf of Jody Allen, Pete Carroll, Chuck Arnold, Chad Morton, and the whole Seahawks community.”

Collins was a fifth-round selection by the Seahawks in 2016, and after spending time in Baltimore, he returned to Seattle in 2020 and 2021, gaining plaudits from teammates and coaches alike as he helped revive the rushing game.

“He’s got a great spirit that he brings to the team,” remarked Seahawks coach Pete Carroll in 2021. “He’s doing incredibly well. “I’m ecstatic about him.”

Collins also became a fan favourite in Seattle because to his wide grin and upbeat demeanour, as well as his distinctive Irish dance touchdown celebration, a tribute to the exercise he did before his NFL career to strengthen his feet.

Collins, a Fort Lauderdale, Florida native, entered Arkansas following a great career at South Plantation High School, and he was one of three players in SEC history to dash for 1,000 yards in three straight seasons, as Carroll likes to point out.
