Against the Eagles, the Seahawks activate Geno Smith and start Drew Lock.

Drew Lock started as quarterback for the second consecutive week, although quarterback Geno Smith was active for the Seattle Seahawks’ game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night.

Despite Smith’s groin ailment, he was activated around 90 minutes before to kickoff, raising doubts about who will start versus the Eagles.

Conversely, Jalen Hurts, the quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, was active and got the ball going after being downgraded to doubtful on Sunday due to sickness.

In an attempt to prevent infecting anybody else, Hurts, whose condition had become worse over the course of Saturday and Sunday, flew to Seattle alone from the squad.

The Eagles-Seahawks game was flexed to “Monday Night Football” instead of the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots game, which enhanced Hurts’ chances of playing in Seattle. Hurts would have had a harder difficulty participating if Sunday’s Eagles-Seahawks game had gone as scheduled.

Hurts, 25, skipped Saturday’s practice. In addition to throwing for 3,192 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions this season, the 2022 Pro Bowler has scored 12 running touchdowns, which ties him for the second-most in the NFL.

Due to a groin injury sustained during Seattle’s defeat to the San Francisco 49ers last week, Smith’s status was labeled as doubtful.

General manager John Schneider revealed that Smith worsened the injury during practice last week, but he astonished the Seahawks with how well he looked during pregame warmups during his pregame appearance on Seattle Sports 710-AM.

“Geno came out tonight and really surprised in his pregame workout,” he said. “I had a great workout here and moved about nicely, but I was a bit frustrated with it again over the week and didn’t get much practice time. He will thus be active, and we will have, what, fifty-four minutes to ascertain the cause of the problem. However, Drew had an excellent practice week and has been playing with the first team all week.”

And in the end, Lock received the approval.

Safety Jamal Adams (knee) and cornerback Devon Witherspoon (hip pointer) of Seattle were both out of action. This last week, neither of them practiced at all.

On December 7, Smith tripped over a defender during practice and made an unnatural stride, which resulted in a groin injury. He worked out at Levi’s Stadium the next day without practicing in an effort to play, but coach Pete Carroll later said that he lacked the required mobility.

Carroll expressed optimism on Thursday on Smith’s development, stating that he “feels really good.” But when asked the next day whether he will play against the Eagles, Smith seemed unsure, responding, “We’ll see.” All this week, the Seahawks had him categorized as a limited participant.

It is the first time the Seahawks (6-7) have dropped four consecutive games since Carroll took over as head coach in 2010. As of Monday night’s game, they have a 32% probability of making the playoffs, according to ESPN Analytics. In the event of a victory, it would rise to 55% and decrease to 16%.
