After six years of marriage, Ricky Martin and the musician Jwan Yosef announced their separation in a joint statement on Thursday.
“After giving it some thought, we have chosen to terminate our marriage with love, respect, and dignity for our children — maintaining and honouring everything we have experienced as a couple all of these great years,” they wrote. “For some time, we have pondered altering our relationship. “As we continue the joint upbringing of our children, our greatest desire is to continue having a healthy family dynamic and a relationship centred on our genuine friendship.”
Lucia, their daughter, was born in 2018, and Renn, their boy, was born in 2019. Matteo and Valentino are Martin’s other twin kids. Their birth year was 2008.
In 2016, the “Livin’ La Vida Loca” singer popped the question to Yosef. The pair announced their nuptials in the beginning of 2018.
The news of the divorce comes a year after Martin was accused of harassment. A restraining order was issued against the singer. In a tweet at the time, he said the order was based on “completely false” accusations, and he intended to respond to them “with the responsibility that characterises me.”
A court spokeswoman at the time informed the Associated Press that the petitioner in the case “voluntarily ceased his claims” and “the case was archived” a few weeks later.
