A player from West Liberty Soccer is scheduled to visit FC Barcelona’s Development Camp twice.

After returning from Barcelona, a West Liberty soccer player was invited to rejoin FC Barcelona’s Development Camp to resume training.
Xavi Hernandez, 10, is still a great player for FC Barcelona Academy in Chicago and Pearl City Soccer Club in Muscatine.

After scouting him in November, FC Barcelona arranged for him and his family to go to Barcelona so he could train at their development camp.
Xavi’s mother Diana Hernandez stated, “Just the growth that we saw, he just gave us the assurance that he does have a very good potential to go very far, at the age that he is.”
Although Xavi is named after the current coach and Barcelona icon, Xavi claims that seeing everything firsthand was a dream come true.
“It went well,” Xavi said. It’s with my whole team; to me, it seems like a family. They help me, and we help them; we help each and every player.
Coaches and trainers were immediately drawn to Xavi because of his quick movements and left-foot finish. FC Barcelona has already seen such in a player such as Lionel Messi, whom Xavi models his style of play after.
Diana said, “Watching him succeed over there was very different from watching him here.” “We feel like we’re on the right track for him and hopefully giving him a future in soccer because of the feedback that we’re receiving, which helps and shows us.”
Of course, one of Xavi’s best memories is of going to Camp Nou and witnessing.
“Xavi {Hernandez},” Xavi said. “We were able to view the game and had excellent seats. We got to touch the grass and watch the players practice as we stood in the corner with a flag.
Xavi’s family finds it difficult to accommodate his hectic schedule, but they are grateful for the community’s support.
Diana remarked, “We’re very grateful that he has the support of his family.” “Even the school community and his teachers have been a pleasure to work with.”
“My entire family is behind me,” Xavi said. “People at school are inquiring as to whether you plan to go to Spain and for what length of time. Funny thing is, I have to warn them every time I’m going in case they find out.”
Next Monday, Xavi and his family will return by plane to Barcelona. The 10-year-old will participate in the Development World Cup, which will be hosted by FC Barcelona. His opponents will be children under the age of twelve. Xavi is anticipated to kick off.
