3 persons were shot dead and 2 were injured at the University of Virginia.

A manhunt is underway for a University of Virginia student accused of killing three people and wounded two more late Sunday, police and the university’s president said.

Christopher Darnell Jones, Jr. is suspected to be armed and dangerous, according to the university president and police. Darnell may be driving a black SUV with the registration plate TWX3580 and wearing a burgundy jacket, blue trousers, and red shoes.

The UVA quest continues. Stay put. UVA Police tweeted about 7:30 a.m. ET to expect more officers. Monday courses at UVA and Charlottesville City Schools are cancelled, the district stated.

A gunshot was reported on Culbreth Road around 10:40 p.m., UVAPD tweeted. Police described the shooting scene as a parking garage near the university’s theatre building, band building, fine arts library, and architecture school.

University authorities haven’t disclosed if the victims were students. Two individuals were injured, Ryan said, adding he was “devastated” by the violence at UVA.

We found 68 school shootings this year, including 15 on college campuses, with at least one victim in each case, not including the gunman. In 2007, a 23-year-old student killed 32 people at Virginia Tech before committing suicide.

The shooting at the Charlottesville campus is also one of nearly 600 mass shootings in the US this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which like the press tallies cases in which at least four people are shot, excluding the shooter.

According to UVA’s athletics website, the suspect was a freshman football player in 2018. Jones played linebacker and running back at Varina and Petersburg high schools, per his university profile. Jones was Key Club president, a National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society member in high school, according to his profile.

UVA students were warned to “take shelter in place directives seriously as the situation continues ongoing”

“We’ve all received many shelter in place texts, and they’re frightening,” Hadley added. “I’m on campus like many of you; I’m sheltering in place and in touch with UPD… If you’re not inside, seek shelter.”

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin and his wife are praying for the school community, he tweeted. “Stay still while police find the culprit.”

The University of Idaho is reeling after authorities discovered four bodies in a residence near campus Sunday. The institution verified the deaths were students and that the threat had gone.
